Bunque By One Midway Through Opening Round

Stephanie Bunque is on top of the leaderboard here at the Bonville Golf Resort midway through the opening round of The Australian Women’s Classic.

The Victorian made birdies on the 3rd and 4th holes to be one stroke clear of just a handful of players early, before another birdie on the par-5 7th.

A hole-out wedge on the 9th hole for eagle has rocketed Danni Vasquez into second place, a shot back of the leader.

Vasquez started her round with seven straight pars before a birdie on the 8th hole then her spectacular eagle just minutes later.

Ladies European Tour and WPGA Tour of Australasia winner Lydia Hall is at minus two alongside South Australian Kristalle Blum.

Despite the light winds at Bonville Golf Resort, only a handful of players have managed to be in red figures as the first players to tee off begin to complete their rounds.

Among some of the more fancied names, rising star Kelsey Bennett is at 1-under.

Bennett started her round with a bogey on the opening hole but bounced back immediately with a birdie on the next hole and on the par-5 4th.

She certainly isn’t alone when it comes to finding some difficulty on the 1st hole.

Of the first 48 players to tee-off, 17 started with their day with a bogey while a further five made a double or worse.

One player who didn’t experience any issues at the start was Kristalle Blum who began her round with a birdie to be on the early leaderboard.

Amateurs Sarah Hammett, Ann Jang and Amelia Harris are also one shot below par early in their rounds.

Pre-tournament favourite Momoka Kobori was square with the card before finishing her outward nine with a double bogey.
