The Australian Women's Classic Bonville - Presented by Pacific Bay Resort Studios

Day One LIVE: Play Abandoned

2.00 PM Play Abandoned

Round One of the Australian Women’s Classic -Bonville Presented by Pacific Bay Resort Studios has been abandoned with just 12 groups able to begin their round.

The Green Staff at Bonville worked tirelessly to make the course playable after over 40 millimetres fell overnight. However, their efforts were in vain as officials were compelled to call all players from the course at 8.20 am due to the increasing rain from an intense low trough.

Officials extended the resumption deadline twice and explored all possible options to get competitors back on course. It was only after careful consideration that Golf NSW, LET and WPGA Tour officials decided to call play for the day over at 2.00 pm.

Of those who did get their round under way, Denmark’s Nicole Broch Estrup holds the early lead at two under par after three holes. Last week’s Women’s NSW Open Golf Champion Maria Jose Uribe Duran of Colombia is one of four players at minus one, including  Ann Van Dam (Netherlands), Linnea Johnson (Sweden), and West Australian Kirsten Rudgeley.

The competition will resume in round one tomorrow at 7.30 am.

1:00 PM: Play Still Suspended

Officials have met again and considered the inability for play to resume in a timely manner with the course still suffering the effects of continuous rain.

A break in the current weather pattern could present an opportunity for competitors to restart their first round this afternoon, however, any more rain will make that unlikely.

Golf NSW, the LET and the WPGA Tour are still hopeful the tournament will be 36 holes.

Play Suspended
Play was suspended at 8:20 AM.

11:10 AM: Play Remains Suspended

Play will remain suspended with officials to consider restarting play at some stage later this afternoon weather permitting.

The next update will be made at 1 PM.

Officials inspected the Bonville layout before dawn and with the help of the fantastic green staff here at Bonville, the course showed little signs of the 40 mm or so of rain which fell overnight.

Early Groups got away on time, with the lead group of Laura Sluman, April Angarasaranee and Camille Chevalier hitting the first tee shots.

Stay tuned for more updates as the day (hopefully) goes on…
